Paternity

In the state of Florida, a Paternity petition may be filed by any woman is who pregnant or has a child, any man who has reason to believe that he is the father of a child, or any child, in order to establish parentage when paternity has not otherwise been established by law.

If there is a doubt as to a child’s paternity, a DNA test may be performed in order to confirm paternity.

There are various rights and responsibilities that must be addressed when paternity is established, including parental responsibility, timesharing, payment of child support, health insurance coverage for the child, payments of uncovered medical expenses, payment of extra curricular activities, school activities, etc.
